Terri Cornwell

SSC Executive Board President

Terri brings 30 years of experience as a middle school special education teacher to her role on the SSC Board. After retiring early from teaching in 2017, Terri and her husband, who was already retired, made the decision to relocate to Sanger, Texas. Their transition included an adventurous period living in a 16-foot travel trailer while searching for a permanent home. During this time, they shared their compact living space with their pets: two dogs, two parakeets, two cockatiels, a snake, and a turtle.

Once settled, Terri found herself seeking new challenges and started a pet and home-sitting business, which allowed her to indulge her love for animals. Two years ago, after learning from a neighbor, Sherry, about the Sanger Senior Center’s need for support, Terri began her involvement with the center. She credits her teaching background for providing valuable skills that have been beneficial in her work for the Senior Center thus far.

Terri’s husband, Tim, has also played a supportive role by creatively manufacturing several items for their endeavors in his workshop. In her free time, Terri enjoys hobbies such as sewing, needlework, jewelry making, puzzles, reading, and cooking.

Terri is an active supporter of the Sanger Chamber of Commerce and is a proud member of the Sanger Lions organization. Both she and her husband participate in the organization’s flag program, and Terri has contributed to the Lions’ vision screenings at local schools. Terri is also fulfilling the role of Board Secretary.

Sherry Knighton

SSC Executive Board Vice President

Sherry Knighton has been a resident of the Sanger area for 19 years. Prior to her retirement, she had a distinguished career as a flight attendant with Delta Airlines, serving for an impressive 36 and a half years.

During her time with Delta, Sherry pursued further education and ultimately earned a Special Education degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. After retiring from Delta Airlines, she chose to continue her involvement in education. She worked as a paraprofessional in the Plano School District for five years and then served as a substitute teacher for an additional five years.

Eleven years ago, Sherry experienced the loss of her husband. In her personal life, she enjoys gardening, playing soccer, and relaxing on her two-acre property in Sanger. She is also an avid fan of live music and frequently attends performances by various singers and bands.

Sherry enjoys traveling to music events, participating in soccer tournaments, visiting friends, and exploring new places or returning to familiar favorites. She has been actively involved in the senior center for approximately two years, contributing her time and energy to the community.

As Vice President, Sherry says her role is to support the President, and she proudly says she is very good at delegating.

Heather Hamilton

SSC Executive Board Treasurer

Heather Hamilton and her husband have called Sanger home since 2021. Motivated by a desire to become more involved in her new community, Heather volunteered with the Sanger, Texas Senior Center and ran for the position of Treasurer.

Heather is currently retired and draws upon an extensive career in business management, accounting, and property management. After stepping away from her previous professional roles, she and her husband established a company focused on real estate investment, specifically rental properties and house flipping. Their business remains active, although they sold their last rental property in 2024.

Before relocating to Sanger, Heather and her husband lived in Pilot Point from 2008 to 2021. During that time, Heather stayed involved in her community. She served as Board Secretary for her HOA association until her move. She also contributed to the Pilot Point Opera House, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, where she served as Treasurer until shortly before relocating.

In recent years, Heather and her husband have dedicated more time to their passions, especially traveling and music. They frequently travel to spend time with their grandchildren. Music plays a significant role in their lives, with Heather’s husband performing in several groups and many of their friends sharing a love for music. When they are not traveling or participating in musical activities, they enjoy watching sports together, and Heather also participates in a bowling league.

Peggy Williams

SSC Honorary Board Member – Past President

After a dedicated career at Verizon from 1997 to 2003, Peggy Williams retired at the age of 60 through a buyout package. Following her retirement, she sold her home in Irving and relocated to Sanger in 2004.

Peggy’s longstanding interest in nutrition inspired her to earn a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Texas Woman’s University. She played a significant role in the Sullivan Senior Center in Sanger beginning in 2009. She began her work at the center through SPAN as the Manager of the Meals on Wheels Program in Sanger.

Peggy’s commitment to the center quickly grew, and she became President of the Senior Center. In this leadership role, she introduced exercise classes and additional programs to benefit the seniors in attendance.

In 2020, Peggy’s health was challenged by a diagnosis of Bullous Pemphigoid, an autoimmune disease that affected her ability to manage Meals on Wheels. Despite these challenges, she continued to lead programs at the senior center. Peggy chose not to run for re-election in 2024 and stepped back from her leadership responsibilities.

She has expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming new building provided by the City and says she is looking forward to what it will bring for the community. As Past President, Peggy serves on the SSC Board as an Honorary Member in an advisory capacity. Peggy now has the opportunity to fully enjoy her retirement from leadership at the new Senior Center alongside both old and new friends.

Kristine Stucky

SC Board Member-At-Large – Committee Chairperson for our We Care Team

Kristine Stucky and her husband have been proud residents of Sanger for the past nine years. Kristine says she has a deep compassion for others, and while raising her children, she also dedicated herself to caring for those in need.

Her professional experience includes working in retirement homes, as well as in hospitals and doctors’ offices, where she provided support and care to many individuals.

At home, Kristine enjoys a variety of hobbies, including working on puzzles, crocheting, and nurturing her collection of healthy houseplants. She is also a devoted pet owner and cherishes the time she spends with her three dogs.

Kristine is active in the local community as a member of the Women’s Club, where she continues to foster connections and offer her support. She has expressed enthusiasm for meeting new people and forming new friendships.

With her compassionate, gentle, and soft-spoken nature, Kristine is well-suited for her role as Chairperson of the We Care Team, where she will continue to support and uplift others.

Phyllis Pittman

SSC Board Member-At-Large – Committee Chairperson for the Outreach Team

Forty-five years ago, Phyllis married her high school sweetheart, Chuck. In 1981, the couple chose to settle in Sanger, a decision that marked the beginning of a deep connection to the community.

Over the years, they raised their two daughters in Sanger, supported them into adulthood, and celebrated their marriages. Both daughters chose to remain in Sanger with their own families, which brings great happiness to Phyllis and Chuck as it allows them to stay close to their four grandchildren and enjoy family gatherings and holiday celebrations just minutes away.

Chuck dedicated 42 years to his career at UNT before retiring, while Phyllis spent 24 years actively participating in Denton’s small business community. Now, Phyllis and Chuck are enjoying this new chapter of retirement.

They are excited about the opening of the new Sanger Senior Center and are looking forward to what it has to offer the citizens of the city. Phyllis, who enjoys puzzles, will organize the puzzle library program and hopes to bring in a Mahjong teacher for lessons and group play sessions at the Senior Center.

Phyllis also brings a wealth of business experience to the Board, which will greatly benefit planning and coordination of future events.
