Weekly Calendar

Definitions and Descriptions:

Open Social Time: During open social time, members are encouraged to engage with other SSC members in socializing through conversation, board games, card playing, etc. The SSC Board encourages inclusiveness – although it is acceptable to come with or meet up with a small group for gameplay – we encourage thoughtfulness by our members to include those who may come in as single game players.

Specific Gameplay noted on schedule: If a specific game is scheduled on the calendar (for example: 42 Dominos) priority will be for those playing that game – however, staff will work with others wishing to play something else – although the location may not be the social room.

Men’s Social Time or Men’s Coffee Time: This is a time set aside to honor our male members. Women are still welcome during these time slots – the staff may request that you meet in another location within the Center to allow the men their bonding time.

Walking Group: The staff has mapped out the mileage for the route from the Center to the Sanger Square for those looking to get their steps in during reasonable outdoor weather.

Puzzling Group: The SSC facility has a dedicated room for puzzlers to work on an ongoing larger puzzle or for small groups to collaborate. There will also be an ongoing community puzzle in Peggy’s area to add pieces into whenever you drop in. You are welcome to work on a puzzle at times other than those listed.

Knitting, Crocheting, and Needlework: This is a time dedicated to those who are looking to meet up with others and enjoy the company while working on your project. You are likewise welcome to come at any time during open hours and work on your project.

Chair Volleyball: This is a novice group playing a form of volleyball with a low net, using a small inflatable beach ball, while sitting in a chair. No volleyball skills required; goal is to not lift off the chair and just have FUN! You will laugh and you actually will be exercising!

Low Impact Exercise Sessions: At this time, most all exercise sessions will emphasize low-impact exercising- which, by definition, is any physical activity that minimizes stress on your joints (to knees, hips, and ankles) by reducing jarring ground-reaction force. Low-impact does not equal low-intensity! Low-impact exercise can still significantly elevate your heart rate and build muscle. The majority of the sessions will have the exercises demonstrated both sitting and standing.

*****The goal of any SSC Exercise session:

  • Move, Move, Move: It isn’t to keep up with the instructor; it isn’t to do the same number of times (or more) – it is to move
  • First, listen at all times to your own body – not the instructor: you know what hurts or how far a part of you can be moved – that’s what you respect first
  • During any one session at the Center, there may be those who are just starting and those who are more energetic – be kind – if you move more freely, step behind the others while you can keep up
  • Pausing and starting again is OK! Also, knowing what your personal limit for the day is and the time you are present and loving and respecting yourself to know when to stop – you are not being compared to others; we celebrate your coming and attending any part of an exercise session as a successful choice to do so!.
