What will you find at the SSC?
Senior adults looking for opportunities in fitness, recreation, creativity, and social programs will have a variety of programs to choose from at the SSC. Whether you’re interested in educational presentations, fitness classes, or pursuing a new hobby, there will be many ways to stay active and engaged. You can also just come connect with friends over a cup of coffee, through various games, or simply enjoy a quiet place to sit and work a puzzle or read a book.
SSC Members can expect a variety of activities to be added to the schedule in the coming months, including presentations, classes, crafting sessions, bingo, mahjong, and specialized exercise groups like yoga.
Our schedule might not include your desired class or activity yet, but we are committed to listening to what y’all are looking for and expanding our options. We value your input.
Here are some of the examples of items filling our opening schedule:
– open game playing times (cards, dominos, board games, etc)
– 30 minute low-impact exercise sessions for beginners & intermediate levels
– walking group
– chair volleyball
-drop in puzzling time
-use of exercise equipment
-knitting/crocheting/needlework group
Peggy’s Social Area
In our Social Area, named after Ms. Peggy Williams, you will find a cabinet complete with plenty of cards, card games, board games, dominoes, and even adult coloring books and crossword books. A comfortable sitting area is available to sit and read, do needlework, or just visit during coffee hour. Men’s social time or men’s coffee hour doesn’t mean women aren’t allowed, as we have plenty of room – we’re just going to give our male members some priority.

PUZZLE LIBRARY
Our members always have a community puzzle in the works – ready for those dropping in. The SSC also has a room devoted to puzzlers where you can start a puzzle by yourself or with friends. We also offer our members a puzzle library of over 200 puzzles ready for your checkout selection to work at home. Our puzzles range from 200 to 2,000 pieces – whether you’re looking for something new and different to put together yourself or work with the visiting grandkids, our selection won’t disappoint.

Exercising
Whether you are looking for exercise equipment (exercise bike, incline bike, treadmill, elliptical, balance ball) or equipment for exercising with (weights or resistance band) we have it available or you may bring your own. Currently, we have both DVD and YouTube sessions to follow.
Low impact can be achieved either sitting or standing – low impact means that there is no extra stress on knee joints and the general dynamic of the session is a slower pace while still achieving cardio benefit.
We also have yoga and tai chi available, as well as quicker-paced (but still low to intermediate impact) music-based sessions.

Come join us for chair volleyball – No volleyball skills required – very fun way to exercise on a Friday afternoon! This session we had 8 players = more fun!
